Ukraine’s food security is the stability of world markets

Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Vitaliy Koval spoke at the main panel discussion of the Conference on the Recovery of Ukraine – “Improving Global Food Security Together with Ukraine”.
The Minister expressed his gratitude to the Italian Republic, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the European Commission for organizing this important conversation. During his speech, Vitaliy Koval noted that despite the fourth year of war, direct losses to the agricultural sector of over $83.9 billion and mined territories, Ukraine is proving its resilience: “Food security of Ukraine is the stability of world markets”.
“We are a reliable supplier to the world and remain a support for about 400 million people on different continents. Since May 2022, thanks to the Solidarity Paths and the new Black Sea Corridor, Ukraine has exported 197 million tons of agricultural products without breaking a single contract. Our strategy is to move from raw materials to products. To transform Ukraine from an agricultural country to an agro-industrial country. After all, today we process only about 26% of agricultural products with a potential of 68%. This will mean +4% to GDP, modernization of rural areas and thousands of jobs,” Vitaliy Koval emphasized.
According to him, Ukraine today is about humanitarian leadership and innovation. The initiative of the President of Ukraine “Grain from Ukraine” has already helped save more than 20 million people from hunger in the most vulnerable countries. The Minister announced the next step of the initiative – the “Food from Ukraine” project. In particular, Ukraine plans to send humanitarian aid not only in the form of grain, but also deep-processed products created at Ukrainian factories.
“We value the continued support of international partners. Every euro invested in the restoration of the Ukrainian agricultural sector is an investment in the stability of millions of consumers around the world,” the Minister emphasized.
Vitaliy Koval also invited partners to join the next Grain from Ukraine summit, which will be held on November 22, 2025 in Kyiv.
