Ukraine’s fertile soils should grow wheat, not craters from explosions – Zelenskyy

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the world to be more determined to stop Russia’s aggression. This was stated in his speech at the Conference of Ministers of Agriculture in Berlin, which is part of the Global Forum on Food and Agriculture.

Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine has always been and will always be a conscientious and responsible participant in global food relations:

“This is our moral constant: there should be wheat on fertile soils, not craters from explosions.”

He emphasized that even after suffering terrorist aggression from Russia, Ukraine continues to export food to countries around the world.

“Before this war, which Russia unleashed against us and which destroys our potential, in particular, agricultural potential, we exported 6.5 million tons of food every month. Due to the Russian aggression and Russia’s actions to block our food exports, the supply has been halved. If we count it not in tons, but in lives, it means at least 200 million people in different countries on three continents – in Africa, Asia and Europe – who have worsened access to food,” Zelenskyy said.

The President noted that the decline in Ukrainian exports of products leads to rising prices in Europe, for Asia it means a growing threat of social instability, for Africa, for countries such as Ethiopia or Sudan, it means empty tables for thousands and thousands of families.

“This means that the world needs more determination and more cooperation to stop the aggressions that are disrupting the food market. To stop any state that blocks the sea and destroys food supply chains. To bring to justice any tyrant who tries to make hunger an instrument of his policy,” Zelenskyy emphasized.

According to the President, it is quite possible to defeat hunger and guarantee food security. It is also possible to stabilize food prices on the world market. However, to do this, the world must punish the aggressors and help countries that are now on the brink of famine, Zelenskyy said.

“This is exactly what Ukraine is doing. This is what our partners are doing. I urge everyone to join in,” the President of Ukraine said, inviting everyone to support the Ukrainian initiative “Grain from Ukraine” and the creation of food hubs in Africa.
