Ukraine. Winter crops rated mostly good
Crop condition:
– The country was dominated by variable air temperatures on December 18-22;
– The lowest soil temperature at the tillering node depth of winter crops locally fell to 0…-4.8ºC. This is far above the killing level even for underdeveloped plants;
– As of December 20, the calculated killing temperatures for mid-hardy winter wheat varieties were -12.5…-14ºC at the tillering stage, -0.5…-12ºC at the 3rd leaf stage, -9.5…-11ºC at the emergence stage;
– Winter crops are in forced winter dormancy;
– They are rated mostly good.
Moisture supply:
– Precipitation of various rates and intensities in the form of rain, snow and sleet occurred all over the country;
– December precipitation were extraordinarily important, as the soil was not frozen and therefore fully absorbed the water, UkrAgroConsult reports.
Weather forecast for December 28-January 2:
– Most of the country is expected to receive 15-50 mm of precipitation. The northern regions will likely get 2-15 mm;
– Air temperatures will be -1 …-3°C in the daytime, -5…-7°C at night in the West; -4…-6°C in the daytime, -7…-9°C at night in the North; -4…-6°C in the daytime, -6…-8°C at night in the East; -1…-3°C in the daytime, -3…-5°C at night in Central Ukraine; +5…+7°C in the daytime, +2…+4°C at night in the South.
