Ukraine waiting for opening the Chinese peas market

Total exports of Ukrainian peas in MY 2019/20 were down 36%, whereas shipments in July-August 2020/21 accelerated compared to the same period last year, but in the first five months they were down 8% y-o-y, UkrAgroConsult reports.
With regard to foreign demand for Ukrainian peas, it is still weak because of the loss of the major market in India, which has imposed an import tariff on the commodity.
Talks are still underway with China about supplying Ukrainian peas to the country. According to the latest information, a positive decision may be made in Q1 2021. If the parties do agree on exports to China, this would be an incentive for Ukrainian farmers to expand pea plantings.
