Ukraine shipped more than 400 tons of peas to Mauritania under the “Grain from Ukraine” program
Ukraine and the World Food Program (WFP) have sent a shipment of 423 tons of split peas to Mauritania for the first time since the launch of the “Grain from Ukraine” humanitarian program.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
These deliveries will contribute to WFP’s activities in the region, in particular school feeding programs and support for the population during the lean season.
Part of the Ukrainian peas will be used in school canteens throughout Mauritania, as well as in camps for displaced persons. The other part will be used in community health centers in combination with other products.
Reportedly, more ships with Ukrainian food for humanitarian needs will be sent to Mauritania and other countries in need in the coming months.
The “Grain from Ukraine” initiative was launched in the spring of 2022 to support global food security and help the most vulnerable countries and regions by supplying grain, oil and other food products from Ukraine.
We would like to add that the Grain from Ukraine program, which currently provides Ukrainian grain to countries in need, may expand to other food products.
According to Michela Carucci, Food Systems and Resilience Specialist at the World Food Program (WFP) in Ukraine, cooperation with Ukrainian agro-processors is growing significantly: during the full-scale war, the volume of humanitarian products from Ukrainian producers amounted to more than half a billion dollars in value.
It is noted that the organization intends to strengthen partnerships with the private and public sectors aimed at developing the supply of processed products and increasing the efficiency of value chains.
