Ukraine retains leadership in sunflower meal supplies to China
China purchased a record 8.7 million tons of meal last year (+12% to 2022), according to data from the Hamburg-based analytical company OilWorld (Germany). According to their estimates, sunflower and rapeseed meal accounted for about 60% of supplies in the reporting period – 2.9 million tons and 2.3 million tons, respectively.
According to German experts, imports of these products grew in December as well: up to 272 thsd tonnes of sunflower meal (221 thsd tonnes a year earlier) and 353 thsd tonnes of rapeseed meal (309 thsd tonnes).
Last month, China purchased the main volumes of sunflower meal from Ukraine (218 thsd tonnes) and Bulgaria (129 thsd tonnes), and rapeseed meal from Canada (168 thsd tonnes) and the UAE (50 thsd tonnes).
At the same time, according to traders, there is an oversupply of oilseed meals on the domestic market of China, which puts significant pressure on prices.
