Ukraine ratifies free trade agreement with Canada
The Verkhovna Rada has adopted a draft law on the ratification of the Free Trade Agreement between Ukraine and Canada.
This was reported by MP from the Voice parliamentary faction Yaroslav Zheleznyak in Telegram.
Bill No. 0242 was supported by 317 votes of MPs.
The document was drafted by the Ministry of Economy to ratify the Free Trade Agreement between Ukraine and Canada, signed on September 22, 2023 in Ottawa, which, according to the Law of Ukraine “On International Treaties of Ukraine,” is a prerequisite for its entry into force.
Free Trade Agreement with Canada
- The first version of the Free Trade Agreement between Ukraine and Canada has been in force since 2017 and eliminated duties on a large number of goods. In September 2023, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau signed an updated version of the document, which expanded the agreement to cover services, investment, communications, and other promising sectors. It was reported that it would enter into force after ratification.
- In February 2024, the Senate of Canada approved the Free Trade Agreement with Ukraine in the second reading.
