In view of peculiarities of the past 2020/21 season, record prices and high growing margin of sunflower seed, the sunflower planted area reached a record level.

Like last year, this year’s weather adjusts yield forecasts, which have been lowered from record levels. However, the sunseed production conditions are generally much more favorable throughout the growing season.

According to UkrAgroConsult’s estimates, the current sunseed crop will increase by 15-20% compared to 2020 crop. Export potential of the sunflower oil market and sunflower meal market will grow as well.

Despite expectations of a record crop of sunflower seed, a significant harvesting delay, and the experience of the farmer sales strategy aimed at warming up the market, the season is going to be atypical. This is already confirmed by its first month, which witnessed a sunseed price increase as early as the start of the marketing year.
