Ukraine. More winter crops were sown this year than last year
Ukraine sowed 5.188 million hectares of winter crops for the 2025 harvest, which is 97.6% of the forecast. The planned areas were not sown, mostly in the frontline regions due to the threat of shelling. Nevertheless, Ukrainian farmers sowed more winter grains this year than for the 2024 harvest (4.905 mln ha).
This is reported by AgroTimes with reference to the data of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and the State Statistics Service.
Traditionally, most of the winter grains were sown in the southern regions and Dnipropetrovs’k region:
- in Odesa region – 760 thsd ha;
- in Dnipropetrovska region – 567 thsd ha;
- in Mykolaiv region – 503.1 thsd ha.
In Sumy region, winter crops were sown on 79 thou hectares, which is only 64.9% of the forecast. Also, almost 20% of the planned area was under-sown in Kharkiv region, with 324.8 thou hectares planted.
