Ukraine may harvest 22-22.5 mln tons of wheat

This year can be considered relatively successful for wheat. According to the State Statistics Committee, the area under this crop exceeded 5 million hectares, and this is the highest figure since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
This was reported by UkrAgroConsult grain market expert Elizaveta Malyshko in her column for The Ukrainian Farmer.
According to her, such an area allows us to predict a harvest at the level of last year (22-22.5 million tons), despite the fact that the yield during the harvest lags behind both last year’s and average indicators.
The UkrAgroConsult grain market expert recalled that the harvest campaign, which started in the South of Ukraine and where wheat with high protein levels was harvested due to appropriate weather conditions, led to a reduction in the price difference between food and feed grain.
“But in the near future the situation may improve: firstly, due to the advancement of harvesting to the north and west of the country, where the yield will be higher, and the protein index may decrease slightly; secondly, due to the approaching harvest of corn, which will compensate for the shortage of feed grain supply and will absorb part of the feed demand,” emphasized Yelizaveta Malyshko.
Let us remind you that there are certain risks due to the global trend of increasing supply and competition in the wheat market.
