Ukraine lost about 100 million dollars due to the export of sunflower seeds instead of oil

Due to the fact that farmers export sunflower seeds, Ukraine actually lost about 100 million dollars. After all, raw materials are processed abroad and, accordingly, the additional value goes to foreign processors.

Stepan Kapshuk, general director of the association “Ukroliyaprom”, told about this in his column for AgroTimes.

According to him, sunflower began to leave the country through Bulgaria and Moldova to Turkey.

In June, 537,000 tons of this oil crop were exported. “In total, according to the results of 10 months of the last marketing year, up to 1 million tons of sunflower went abroad – this is about 100 million dollars of additional value, which we actually gave to processors from other countries. Therefore, it is logical that it will be more profitable to buy Ukrainian raw materials abroad than our oil and meal,” Stepan Kapshuk emphasized.

According to him, last year the oil and fat complex brought 8.5 billion foreign currency revenue and it provides 5% of the GDP of the whole of Ukraine.
