Ukraine is able to expand sugar exports to African and Middle Eastern markets
The markets of the Middle East and North Africa are important for Ukrainian sugar producers as an alternative to the European one, which is currently limited by quota.
This was stated by the head of the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine Yana Kavushevska during a meeting at the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, the association reports on Facebook.
She noted that in the 2024/25 marketing year, almost 90% of the exported 500 thousand tons went to these destinations. Among the leading importers of Ukrainian sugar are Turkey, Libya, Lebanon, Somalia, Jordan, Cameroon. At the same time, Ukrainian sugar producers are ready to further expand the geography of exports in the region and count on the support of the ministry in this matter.
“We have real prospects — and now it is important to take advantage of them. Currently, Ukraine’s share in world trade is only 0.2%. “The demand for quality food products is growing, and Ukraine has long proven its ability to be a reliable supplier. Our goal is to scale this experience, open new markets, form trade hubs, and make exports systemic,” emphasized Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Vitaliy Koval during the meeting.
