Ukraine increases exports of sunflower oil to the EU

The European Union’s soybean imports in 2023/24 MY, which started in July, reached 5.17 million metric tons by December 17, almost unchanged from 5.15 million a year earlier, according to data released by the European Union on Tuesday.
EU rapeseed imports during the same period totaled 2.56 million tons, down 27% from 3.48 million a year earlier.
Imports of soybean meal amounted to 6.83 million tons, down 11% from 7.65 million tons a year earlier, and imports of palm oil totaled 1.58 million tons, down 14% from 1.84 million tons a year earlier.
The EU countries imported more than 1.05 mln tonnes of sunflower oil from July 1 to December 17 this year, which is 13% higher than the level in the same period last year (931 thsd tonnes). Such data is contained in the report of the European Commission. Ukraine was the key exporter of the product to the EU in the new agricultural year, having sent 969.95 thousand tons of oil to the bloc against 835 thousand tons a year earlier.
The Commission said that data on imports to Italy have been missing since the end of November.
