Ukraine has finished sowing campaign and gets ready to harvest a new crop
The sowing campaign, despite unprecedented challenges, was successful. According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, 75% of last year’s area was sown.
This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal.
“As а part of the program of preferential loans “5-7-9″ to support agricultural producers, banks have issued 38.5 billion UAH, including 24 billion UAH under the program of state portfolio guarantees,” – said Shmygal.
He noted that preparations for the harvest are now underway and listed the main challenges facing farmers:
- First one – grain export logistics. The Ministry of Infrastructure is working on measures to increase a throughput capacity on the western border of Ukraine. After all, due to Russia’s blockade of Ukrainian ports, we still have 23.5 million tons of grain and oilseeds.
- Second – storage capacity for the new crop. The Ministry of Agrarian Policy is considering the possibility of organizing mobile storage in the light of international experience. This will allow Ukraine to increase storage volumes by 10-15 million tons.
- Third – providing fuel to farmers.
“During the meeting, I instructed the relevant ministries and the State Administration to provide the required amount of diesel fuel for the harvest season,” said Shmygal.
According to him, the government has taken all measures to successfully conduct the most difficult sowing campaign in Ukraine’s history.
“Now the harvesting of a new crop must be no less successful,” he said.
