Ukraine has already sown 83 thsd ha with spring crops

Sowing Campaign 2025 has begun, and in the first weeks, according to official data, 83 thsd ha have been sown with spring cereals and legumes.

As of March 13, farmers in 15 regions have started sowing, covering:

  • Vinnytsia — 10.1 thsd ha;
  • Volyn — 11.0 thsd ha;
  • Dnipropetrovsk — 2.6 thsd ha;
  • Zhytomyr — 0.5 thsd ha;
  • Kyiv — 7.0 thsd ha;
  • Kirovohrad — 6.0 thsd ha;
  • Lviv — 1.3 thsd ha;
  • Mykolaiv — 10.0 thsd ha;
  • Odesa — 3.7 thsd ha;
  • Poltava — 2.35 thsd ha;
  • Rivne — 10.84 thsd ha;
  • Sumy — 0.23 thsd ha;
  • Ternopil — 15.2 thsd ha;
  • Khmelnytskyi — 1.0 thsd ha;
  • Chernivtsi — 1.2 thsd ha.

Currently, Volyn (5.5 thsd ha) and Ternopil (1.8 thsd ha) regions are leading in wheat sowing. In barley, the leaders are Ternopil (12.5 thsd ha) and Rivne (7.1 thsd ha). The highest area of peas has been sown so far in Vinnytsia (3.1 thsd ha) and Rivne (0.45 thsd ha). Oats are being actively sown in Rivne (2.92 thsd ha) and Volyn (2.5 thsd ha) regions.

Overall, it is forecasted that in the 2025 season, 5 mln 763.5 thsd ha will be sown with spring cereals and legumes in Ukraine (in 2024 — 5 mln 701.8 thsd ha).

Of this:

  • wheat — 222.8 thsd ha (2024 — 173.5 thsd ha);
  • barley — 780.3 thsd ha (824.7 thsd ha);
  • peas — 216.4 thsd ha (208.1 thsd ha);
  • oats — 161.6 thsd ha (171.4 thsd ha);
  • corn — 4 mln 96.2 thsd ha (3 mln 985.5 thsd ha);
  • buckwheat — 85.8 thsd ha (88.8 thsd ha);
  • millet — 85.2 thsd ha (88.1 thsd ha).

Technical crops are projected to cover 7 mln 733.1 thsd ha (2024 — 7 mln 776.5 thsd ha).

Of this:

  • sugar beets — 262.7 thsd ha (259.5 thsd ha);
  • sunflower — 5 mln 81.9 thsd ha (4 mln 880.2 thsd ha);
  • soybeans — 2 mln 388.5 thsd ha (2 mln 636.7 thsd ha).
