Ukraine has already exported more than 90 thsd tons of sugar
Ukraine has already exported more than 90 thousand tons of sugar in 2024/2025 MY (i.e., since September 1).
This was reported in an interview with AgroPortal.ua by Yana Kavushevska, acting Chairman of the Board of the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine.
According to her, the exports are going to the already “traditional” countries for Ukrainian sugar – the Middle East and North Africa, and new destinations are opening up, for example, Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
“It should be borne in mind that white sugar is primarily containerized, and large container ships have not yet entered Odesa, so logistics remains complicated and expensive. Sugar must first be delivered to the port of Constanza, and from there we calculate the delivery to the destination country. Fobbing to Constanza (delivery of sugar to the port) costs about $110, while European sugar, for example, from central Poland, is four times cheaper to deliver to the northern port. And even under these conditions, Ukrainian producers are now competing with European ones on the global market,” she clarifies.
Currently, the Ministry of Economy is also working with the Ministry of Economy on the possibility of establishing duty-free trade with European countries outside the European Union.
“These are Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, and Switzerland. Logistics to these countries is accessible and the markets are attractive. Today, we cannot export to the traditional markets until 2022, such as Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, for obvious reasons,” says Yana Kavushevska.
