Ukraine exported over 5.6 mln tons of sunflower oil in 2022/23 MY

According to the preliminary customs statistics, Ukraine exported almost 450 thsd tonnes of sunflower oil in August 2023, which is a high figure for the last month of the season.

In general, in the season 2022/23 (from September 2022 to the end of August 2023), Ukraine exported more than 5.6 mln tonnes of sunflower oil. For comparison, in 2021/22 season, the export of oil amounted to only 4.5 mln tonnes, and USDA estimates of Ukrainian exports in the current season at the beginning of 2023 calendar year were only 3.9 mln tonnes.

It is worth reminding that according to the final official data released by Ukrstat, the total sunflower seeds production in Ukraine in 2022 amounted to 11.3 mln tonnes. Taking into account the current export values, it can be assumed that the real sunflower harvest was higher than the official data by 1-1.5 mln tons.

In 2023, according to the official data, the total sunflower area in Ukraine amounted to 5.2 thou hectares, which is almost the same as in the previous year. As of the end of August, the sunseed harvesting is just beginning.
