Ukraine continues to dominate the sunflower meal and cake market in China
Over the past 6 years, there has been a significant increase in the supply of sunflower cake and meal to China. At the same time, in 2024, according to the data of the General Administration of Customs of China, the volumes amounted to 2.53 mln tons, which is 14% less than in 2023. In particular, in December last year, the volume of supplies amounted to 127.2 thsd tons, which is 63.9% less than in December 2023.
Ukraine accounts for 72.4% of the total exports of sunflower meal and cake – 1.83 mln tons. Deliveries from Russia accounted for 14% of the market share or 354.9 thsd tons; from Bulgaria – 11.6% or 292.1 thsd tons, from Kazakhstan – 2% or 50.6 thsd tons. There were no supplies from other countries, except for the above mentioned.
In 2024, the average price of sunflower cake and meal imported to China amounted to 325.9 USD/t, down 17.2% year-on-year.
In 2024, the lowest prices for sunflower cake and meal were reported from Kazakhstan – 217.2 USD/t. The prices for sunflower cake and meal from Ukraine were slightly higher – 324.6 USD/ton, and from Russia – 331.6 USD/ton. The highest prices for sunflower cake and meal were imported to China from Bulgaria – 346.5 USD/ton.
In particular, in December 2024, the average cost of sunflower cake and meal supplies at the Chinese customs amounted to 292 USD/ton, which is 25.9% lower than a year ago.
