Ukraine. Condition of late thermophilic crops is difficult due to their too slow growth

According to the Institute of Feed and Agriculture of the Podillia NAAS, in the central Forest-Steppe, the abnormally cold May of this year introduced very undesirable adjustments to the existing system of relationships between the biological characteristics of the crop, in particular, heat requirements and weather conditions.
This is stated in the analytical report of the NAAS.
The germination of soybean seeds, the appearance of its shoots and initial growth and development have slowed down sharply. The duration of seed stay in cold soil is increasing. Corn growth is slowing down, which can negatively affect hybrids. At the same time, weed growth is being activated, the chemical control of which is complicated by frequent rains.
Despite the improvement in the moisture regime, the general condition of agrocenoses, especially late heat-loving crops, is assessed as difficult due to their too slow growth and development and the impossibility of timely application of the necessary technological operations.
A certain complication of the situation is also observed in winter crops. The difficulty is caused not so much by the shortage of effective heat, but by difficulties in timely compliance with technological operations due to frequent almost daily rains. Intensive chemical protection of winter grain crops and rapeseed from diseases has become significantly more difficult.
