Ukraine and Turkey expand cooperation in the agricultural sector

The Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Vitaliy Koval, held a number of meetings with his Turkish colleagues, including the Minister of Trade, Omer Bolat, and the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Ibrahim Yumakli. The parties discussed expanding trade cooperation, in particular in the field of livestock and deep processing. Vitaliy Koval emphasized that Turkey is Ukraine’s fourth largest trading partner, and the trade turnover of agricultural products between the countries last year amounted to $2.2 billion.
During meetings with representatives of Turkish business, Vitaliy Koval proposed investing in the construction of processing plants and vegetable storage facilities in Ukraine. He noted that 35% of Ukrainian agricultural products are lost due to the lack of proper storage conditions. The issues of exporting cattle and sheep to Turkey and neighboring countries, as well as the coordination of veterinary procedures to facilitate trade, were also discussed.
Vitaliy Koval thanked Turkey for participating in the humanitarian initiative “Grain From Ukraine”, which ensures the supply of Ukrainian grain to African countries, in particular Syria. The ministers also discussed future cooperation in this area, in particular the supply of wheat, oil and sugar. These meetings confirm the intention of both countries to develop mutually beneficial cooperation at both the state and business levels.
Further development of the grain sector in the Black Sea and Danube region will be discussed at the 23 International Conference BLACK SEA GRAIN.KYIV on April 24 in Kyiv.
