Ukraine agrees to establish first agrohub in Africa
The Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture of the Republic of Ghana have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to create a Center for Processing and Distribution of Ukrainian products in West Africa.
According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Economy, the agreement marks a new phase of partnership between the countries, fostering agricultural cooperation aimed at strengthening global food stability in the region. This represents the first step toward establishing Ukrainian agrohubs in Africa.
The memorandum outlines the framework for bilateral cooperation, including joint feasibility studies for the processing and distribution center in Ghana, knowledge and technology exchange, preparation of technical and investment documentation, and engagement of businesses, research institutions, and private companies from both countries. Ukraine will provide technological expertise and equipment, while Ghana will supply land, necessary permits, infrastructure access, and legal guarantees.
“Launching the joint Processing and Distribution Center in Ghana will be an important step in expanding Ukraine’s presence in African markets and ensuring access to quality food for millions of people. While Russia attempts to use food as a tool of pressure, we demonstrate that Ukraine is a reliable and predictable partner for West African countries,” emphasized Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture, Denys Bashlyk.
The implementation of the agreement is expected to increase Ukrainian agricultural exports to Africa, establish a logistics hub in Ghana, attract foreign investment in processing, logistics, and agrotechnologies, develop local infrastructure, create jobs, strengthen political and economic partnerships, and enhance food security in the region.
