Dry weather in the fall of 2020 caused a 19% reduction in the winter rapeseed planted area, to 1050 Th ha. Taking into account spring rapeseed, the total area for harvest is put at 1 Ml ha.
The current rapeseed crop condition suggests high yield, up to a record level, that will offset the planting shortfall and increase the crop by 2-3%, UkrAgroConsult reports.
No official statistics on rapeseed harvest is available as of today, but regional news about the start of harvesting and the first yield reports confirm the above-mentioned expectations.
The start of this year’s rapeseed harvest is shifting to later dates because of weather conditions (a cold, lengthy spring, later ripening, summer downpours). Consequently, these will cause a delay in the beginning of the season’s active phase.
The Ukrainian market is still aimed at exporting the raw material to EU countries, whose demand will be supported by a critical situation with canola crops in Canada.
Ukrainian rapeseed price varies at high levels, but its volatility pushes farmers to take a wait-and-see attitude that aggravates the situation with rapeseed supply.
