Turkey’s Grain Production Expected to Drop 12% in 2025
According to the Turkish Statistical Institute, total grain production in the country in 2025 is projected at 34.2 million tonnes, which is 12.4% lower than last year and below the institute’s previous estimate of 37.4 million tonnes, Reuters reports.
Specifically, wheat production is estimated at 17.9 million tonnes, representing a 13.9% decrease compared to 2024 and below the initial estimate of 19.6 million tonnes. Experts note that the decline reflects unfavorable weather conditions and fluctuations in agronomic factors.
Barley production is expected to reach 6 million tonnes, down 25.9% from the previous year and lower than the previous forecast of 7.5 million tonnes. This reduction could affect domestic feed markets and food commodity prices.
Analysts point out that the drop in Turkey’s grain output may have implications for regional trade and grain imports, as the country remains a key player in the global wheat and barley markets.
