Turkey to suspend chicken exports
Turkey will suspend chicken exports starting today due to a sharp price increase. According to Haber Global, the decision was made by the country’s Ministry of Commerce.
This measure was taken to protect the market in response to producers raising prices by 15 percent. The increase occurred ahead of the fasting month of Ramadan, which begins in the country on February 19.
The duration of this measure has not been announced. The ministry’s statement also noted that it will closely monitor the market situation going forward, and additional regulatory measures may be adopted if necessary. The country’s agricultural ministry did not specify what these measures might be.
Two other factors are influencing pricing. The first is high inflation in the country, which forces producers to raise prices to cover rising feed and other input costs. The second is speculation by some producers on the increased demand. The only available data on the price of chicken is provided by the portal RestProperty: from 180 to 300 lira per kilogram. At the current exchange rate, 1 Turkish lira is approximately equal to 1 Ukrainian hryvnia.
