Turkey to increase sunflower production in 2022/23 MY – Sunseedman

Turkish agricultural producers can harvest about 2 million tons of sunflower seeds at the end of the 2022/23 season. This forecast was published by analysts of the consulting agency Sunseedman. If the estimates of experts reach the expected level, then the gross seed harvest in the country will increase by 400 thousand tons compared to the level of 2021/22 MY.
At the same time, experts also expect that in the current season Turkey will almost double its purchases of sunflower seeds abroad – from 475 thousand tons (2021/22 MY) to 750 thousand tons.
However, in the reporting period, Sunseedman expects a decline in imports of sunflower oil to the country – up to 805 thousand tons against 1 million tons a season earlier. Experts attribute such dynamics to a high level of sunflower seed production and an increase in their supply to the domestic market.
In turn, oil exports from the country in the current season may increase by 34% – up to 650 thousand tons.
