Turkey purchases 225 thsd tons of barley at tender
Turkey’s state food purchasing agency (TMO) bought around 225,000 tonnes of feed barley at its February 11 tender, below the planned volume of 255,000 tonnes, according to market participants.
Purchase prices ranged from $266.2 to $279 per tonne on a C&F basis, reflecting current conditions in the global feed grain market.
Barley shipments are scheduled for the period from February 23 to March 23 in parcels of 5,000 to 50,000 tonnes, depending on logistics and destination ports.
The main discharge ports will be Bandirma, Izmir and Mersin, with 50,000 tonnes each, as well as Iskenderun and Adana with 25,000 tonnes each. Additional volumes totaling about 40,000 tonnes will be delivered to the ports of Samsun and Trabzon, ensuring a balanced distribution across regions.
Market sources note that the smaller-than-planned purchases may indicate a more cautious approach by Turkey to feed grain imports amid global price volatility and changing domestic demand.
