Turkey plans to increase pasta production and become the world’s largest pasta exporter, said Namik Kemal Parlak, editor-in-chief of Miller Magazine.

The global pasta market size was 4.864 million tons or $6.537 billion as of 2023. The largest global importers of pasta products are the US, Germany, France, UK and Japan, said Namik Kemal Parlak.

The first place in the global pasta market is now occupied by Italy, followed by Turkey, said Namik Kemal Parlak. Turkey’s share in the global pasta market has been growing since 2014. In 2023, Italy exported 1.941 million tons of pasta, while Turkey exported 1.246 million tons.

Miller Magazine estimates Turkey’s pasta exports to grow to 1.458 million tons in 2024. In 2025, it is expected to export 1.5 million tons.

In 2024, Turkey exported pasta to more than 165 countries, including Somalia, Ghana, Ghana, Venezuela, Ghana and Togo. Supplies to EU countries are limited by a quota of 20,000 tons and to the U.S. by a 64% import duty, Namik Kemal Parlak said.

There are now 25 pasta production facilities in Turkey with a combined capacity of 3 million tons per year. They produce about 2 million tons of pasta annually, according to the editor-in-chief of Miller Magazine. By the end of this year, capacity could be increased by 0.3 million tons from existing plants. Next year, six more plants will start operating, and the total capacity of Turkish producers will grow to 4 million tons per year. This will make it possible to increase pasta production and take the first place in the world in terms of pasta exports, he added.

Further development of the grain sector in the Black Sea and Danube region will be discussed at the 23 International Conference BLACK SEA GRAIN.KYIV on April 24 in Kyiv.
