Turkey increases lentil imports
Turkey is significantly increasing its lentil imports in the 2025/26 season amid a sharp decline in its own harvest. According to the Turkish Statistical Institute, due to adverse weather conditions, lentil production in 2025 decreased to 260 thousand tons compared to 476 thousand tons a year earlier, which created an increased need for external supplies.
According to Turkish Customs, from July to October of the current season, lentil imports to the country reached 243 thousand tons, while in the same period last year it amounted to 181 thousand tons. The main suppliers of the crop to the Turkish market remain Canada, Kazakhstan and Russia, while the structure of supplies is undergoing noticeable changes. Analysts note a gradual decrease in Canada’s share, while Kazakhstan and Russia are strengthening their positions.
