Trump threatens additional tariffs on countries that support BRICS

US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that countries that support the “anti-American policies” of the BRICS will be subject to an additional tariff of 10%. Trump wrote this in a post on the Truth Social platform.
His comment came after BRICS members criticized his tariff policy, as well as proposed reforms of the International Monetary Fund.
“Any country that joins the anti-American policies of the BRICS will be subject to an additional tariff of 10%. There will be no exceptions to this policy. Thank you for your attention to this issue!” – Trump wrote.
The BRICS group united the leaders of Brazil, Russia, India and China at the first summit in 2009.
South Africa later joined the bloc, and last year Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates also joined.
Trump has long been critical of BRICS, an alliance created to strengthen its member countries’ positions on the international stage and counter the United States and Western Europe.
In December 2024, Trump had already threatened to impose tariffs on BRICS countries, saying that “we are going to impose at least a 100 percent tariff on the business that they do with the United States.”
