Tariffs on goods from South Korea imported into the United States will increase from 15% to 25%. US President Donald Trump announced this on his own social network Truth Social.

According to the Republican, he and President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae-myung reached a “great trade agreement” on July 30, 2025. The terms of trade between the states were confirmed during Trump’s visit to Korea last October.

However, the Korean parliament has not yet ratified this agreement. Due to the refusal of deputies to “agree on the historic document, which is their task,” Trump announced that tariffs on goods from Korea will be increased immediately by 10%.

The new rules will apply to cars, lumber, medicines and other imported items. South Korea is one of the main suppliers of goods for the United States. The trade volume in 2024 was more than $ 132 billion.
