The soybean harvest in Ukraine is almost 6% higher than last year
Ukrainian farmers harvested 3.5 million tons of soybeans this year, which is 0.2 million tons or 5.7% more than last year.
This is evidenced by the data of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine and State Statistics.
Despite the general reduction of cultivated areas in Ukraine due to Russian military aggression, Ukrainian farmers sowed more soybeans this year than last year – 1.5 million hectares against last year’s 1.3 million hectares. This is due to a general change in the structure of cultivated areas, taking into account the new realities of war, logistical problems and the increase in the price of fertilizers. After all, as you know, soy is a good precursor for many crops and requires less fertilizers. In addition, it is in demand in the domestic market due to the availability of processing facilities.
At the same time, the yield of the crop is inferior to last year’s. Last year, it was harvested at 26.4 t/ha, and this year – at 24.2 t/ha. One of the limiting factors of productivity was the excessive amount of precipitation in autumn in most regions, which led to the development of diseases and worsened the quality of the harvest. The rains also prevented harvesting on a small part of the area (about 1%).
We remind you that the sunflower harvest is almost 40% lower than last year. As of December 16, corn was threshed on 70% of the area.
