The role of Ukraine in global food security must be strengthened – Zelenskyi
The role of Ukraine in guaranteeing global food security must be strengthened, for this it is necessary to expand the export grain initiative, which ensures the supply of food from our ports.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi said this during a joint meeting with the German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier with the media in Kyiv.
“We agreed with Mr. President that the role of Ukraine in guaranteeing global food security should only increase. For this, it is necessary to preserve and expand the grain export initiative, which ensures the supply of food from our ports,” said Zelensky.
He informed that about 9 million tons of agricultural products have already been exported from Ukraine – tens of millions of people around the world have been saved from the threat of famine, which is provoked by the Russian Federation.
“I consider absolutely shameful Russian attempts to slow down the supply of food to African countries and Asian countries by creating an artificial queue of ships that are forced to wait for the fulfillment of contractual obligations every day for a week or more,” said the head of the Ukrainian state.
According to him, more than 170 vessels were recorded in such a queue.
“I thank Germany and all our partners who support the preservation and expansion of the grain export initiative. We must jointly prevent Russia from disrupting this export in any way,” Zelensky emphasized.
As reported, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is visiting Ukraine on Tuesday, October 25.
