The European Commission is ready to expand the list of goods banned from import from Ukraine
The European Commission is ready to expand the list of goods banned from importation from Ukraine beyond the four goods proposed last week. So far, it has only agreed to ban imports of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower.
This became known during a videoconference between Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis and representatives of five Central European countries on the import of agricultural goods from Ukraine, RMF FM reports.
It was also said at an informal level that the EC would eventually be ready to add other products from the list of restrictions, including eggs and poultry.
Poland also raised the issue of fruits and preserves (mainly applesauce) that remain in national cold stores. According to RMF FM, the European Commission is open to this request.
The EC asked for statistics and additional information on the difficulties with transportation and storage of these products.
The Commission also needs to clarify what its assistance in transporting Ukrainian grain from Poland and neighboring countries will look like.
At the same time, along with the ban on imports of Ukrainian goods, Poland increased its purchases of agricultural products from Russia and Belarus by 37% in 2022.
The country imported products worth €422 million. For comparison, a year ago, imports from Russia amounted to €307 million, and two years ago – €260 million.
