Thailand revises corn import rules
Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives have been tasked to collect data on maize stocks across the country to facilitate the reassessment of the current maize importation situation. This measure is another strategy to address the maize shortage that is responsible for rising maize prices and shortages.
The ministry also plans to improve the efficiency of feed corn plantations and increase the plantation area by another 395,000 acres from the current 2,648,000 acres.
Thailand’s annual demand for feed corn is 8.9 million tons. The country can produce 5 million tons and the rest has to be imported.
