Thai pork producers urged to increase corn and soybean imports from the US

Siththiphan Thangkiatphinho, president of the Thai Pork Producers Association, told local media that the US may pressure Thailand to import more agricultural products, including pork, to balance the trade deficit.
He warned that importing U.S. pork could negatively affect the health of Thais because it contains ractopamine.
Instead, the president of the Pork Producers Association recommends focusing on increasing imports of corn and soybeans as they meet Good Agricultural Practices and Responsible Soy standards. This would address the country’s corn and soybean shortage and improve Thailand’s competitiveness in the global market, especially given the stricter environmental regulations of the European Union.
