Taliban became the largest importer of Russian flour last year

Afghanistan became the largest importer of Russian flour in 2024. China and Turkmenistan are also among the three largest buyers. This was reported by the Russian state agency for the export of agricultural products “Agroexport”, writes Reuters.
The increase in imports was due to Russia’s efforts to establish ties with the Taliban rulers in Afghanistan.
“Citing preliminary estimates, Agroexport said that last year Afghanistan purchased almost $80 million worth of Russian flour, which is twice the level of 2023.
Total exports of wheat and wheat-rye flour from Russia last year reached $300 million, up 3% in value and 7% in volume.
