Sunseed harvesting is already underway in Ukraine, and corn harvesting will begin soon
Due to abnormal weather conditions this year, harvesting of many crops started earlier, in particular, sunseed harvesting is already underway, and corn will be harvested soon. Dmytro Solomchuk, a member of the Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy, said.
“Despite the intense heat and drought in the central and western regions of Ukraine, farmers have received a high wheat harvest. Such a high wheat harvest in the central and western regions of Ukraine has not been seen in the last 5-6 years. This year, the average yield was 7.5-9 tons per hectare. In the eastern and southern regions, yields were lower, although the grain quality class was often higher. These are mostly durum varieties that will be used for pasta, for example,” the MP said.
According to him, it is important that Ukrainians are increasingly consuming their own products, especially organic craft products.
“Our farmers are increasingly beginning to process and produce something of their own, even in small batches for local stores, but the number of such producers is growing by hundreds every year. Many farmers are switching to livestock farming, for example, there is a shortage of milk on the market, so there is a fairly high profitability in this sector,” emphasized Dmytro Solomchuk.
