Sunflower oil became the leader of Ukrainian exports in 2022/23 MY
Ukraine remains a global leader in the grain and oilseeds market. In 2022/23 MY (from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023), Ukraine exported nearly 68 mln tonnes of grains, oilseeds, vegetable oils and meal. This is 10% more than a year earlier. Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko told Forbes magazine about this.
“The geography of exports of Ukrainian grains and oilseeds is very wide. The markets of Asia, Europe and Africa are interested in us. The latter buy mainly wheat. At the same time, sunflower oil became the top exported crop among Ukrainian crops in 2022-2023. 131 countries bought it,” explained Yulia Svyrydenko.
At the same time, Ukraine exported wheat to 65 countries and corn to 58 countries. Soybeans, rapeseed, sunflower, other oilseeds, soybean and sunflower meals, buckwheat – to more than 40 countries:
- Turkey (21%), Romania (15.8%), Spain (14%), Bangladesh (6.2%), and Poland (5.5%) are among the top 5 countries where Ukrainian wheat is exported;
- the top five countries that buy Ukrainian corn are China (19.8%), Romania (16.2%), Spain (10.5%), Egypt (6.3%), and Italy (6.9%);
- the top 5 export destinations for sunflower oil are Turkey (19.3%), Romania (12.1%), China (11.9%), India (7.2%), and Poland (7.2%).
