Sunflower crop forecast in France raised to a record level

This year’s sunseed harvest in France may reach a record 2.17 mln tons. It is reported by Reuters with reference to the data of the Ministry of Agriculture, which in October increased the estimate of the gross harvest of the oilseed against the September forecasts by 0.09 mln tonnes. The updated figure is 38.5% higher than the average for the last 5 years.
As for rapeseed, the agency, on the contrary, reduced the estimate to 4.27 mln tons from 4.3 mln tons in the September forecast (-5.8% yoy).
As for grains, the Ministry of Agriculture has raised its corn harvest forecast for the second month in a row amid favorable conditions for the development of crops. The gross harvest is expected to reach 11.78 mln tonnes (+10.6% by 2022), up from 11.2 mln tonnes in September.
“At the same time, the current production forecast is 9.4% lower than the average for the last 5 years due to a significant reduction in acreage,” the report says.
The barley harvest is forecast at 12.25 mln tons, which is 7.3% higher than last year.
