Sunflower areas in Ukraine will increase by up to 20%
In 2026, in Ukraine and in the south in particular, sunflower crops are expected to grow by an average of 5-20% due to the high economic efficiency of the crop and the need to maintain farm profitability.
This opinion was expressed in a conversation with AgroPortal.ua by the manager of agricultural technology development for the Southern region of LNZ Group Oleksandr Kotygora.
He added that despite the risks of crop rotation disruption, farmers, particularly in the south, choose sunflower as a reliable crop due to its stable demand.
“Sunflower remains one of the most profitable oilseed crops. Its cultivation is also dictated by security risks. In the event of damage to the field due to shelling, the losses from the loss of sunflower will be less than wheat or flax,” Oleksandr Kotygora noted.
He noted that this winter there has been good soil moisture and sufficient precipitation, so sunflower remains a priority. The growth of areas under high-oleic sunflower is considered inclusively as a tool to support the economy of agricultural enterprises in conditions of financial pressure.
