Strategie Grains has lowered its estimate of EU sunseed production for the 2025/26 season

Strategie Grains increases its forecast for EU rapeseed production in the new 2025/26 season from 18.74 to 19 million tons. Sunflower seed production estimate is lowered to 10.4 million tons.
The consultancy has increased its estimate of rapeseed plantings in major producing countries including Romania and Poland. The revised production estimate is 13% higher than the current 2024/25 season. “So far, rapeseed fields are safely experiencing very mild weather. Weather conditions are generally favorable for good crop development,” the company said. Projected rapeseed stocks for the end of June 2025 have been raised due to falling demand and lower anticipated imports, but the situation is still characterized by a shortage,” the report said.
The EU soybean production forecast was raised by 100,000 tons to 3.2 million tons, which would allow the EU crop to break the 3 million ton mark for the first time.
In the oil market, Strategie Grains expects the tight situation observed this season to continue, especially for rapeseed, soybean and palm oils. Only the sunflower oil balance expects a surplus, which the company reports is due to the lack of competitiveness in this sector of production.
“EU sunflower and rapeseed seed prices in the current 2024/25 season have little additional upside potential as the countries’ seed and oil balances remain tight,” the company said in its report.
