Strategie Grains again lowered the forecast of wheat harvest in the EU
Strategie Grains experts again lowered the forecast of the EU wheat crop based on the preliminary harvest data. Compared to the July estimates, the forecast of soft wheat production in 2023/24 MY was reduced from 126.2 mln tonnes to 124.7 mln tonnes (125.3 mln tonnes in 2022/23 MY). At the same time, heavy rains in the north of Europe increase the risk of crop loss and quality decline.
Due to the deteriorating weather in the South of Europe, the corn production forecast is lowered by 2.1 mln tonnes to 58.7 mln tonnes, which is 6.5 mln tonnes higher than the previous year’s dry season.
The barley production forecast has been increased from 47.1 to 47.2 million tons, which is 4 million tons less than last year’s harvest.
