StoneX has lowered its forecast for the global sugar surplus in the 2025/26 season by 70%
Broker StoneX has cut its forecast for a global sugar surplus in the 2025/26 season to 870,000 metric tons, following a cut in its production forecast for India.
In its January report, StoneX had forecast a surplus of 2.9 million tons for the annual global cycle, which runs from October to September. The broker reduced that estimate after revising its forecast for India’s sugar production, which is now estimated at 29.7 million tons, down from 32.3 million tons previously.
The lower surplus could provide some respite for sugarcane growers and mills, which have struggled during a prolonged period of historically low prices.
