
Start to the grain export season in Kazakhstan

In 2020, Kazakhstan was more lucky with summer weather than the year before, therefore it harvested a good grain crop. Wheat exports in September-December are also on the rise: up 37% y-o-y, UkrAgroConsult reports.
As before, the top consumers of Kazakh wheat are the neighboring countries of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, as well as Afghanistan. Shipments to the promising Chinese market fell 18% versus September-December 2019. In China, Kazakh wheat is losing competition to the EU, the U.S., and Canada.
Wheat flour exports rose as well – up 28% y-o-y. The list of the biggest flour importers is the same as for wheat, but the top buyer is Afghanistan with a 74% share. Contrary to wheat, Chinese demand for Kazakh flour gained 45%.
Barley exports dropped by- 50% from last season, November and December shipments abroad were even below their five-year low.
