Spring crop sowing rates remain high in the US
Last week, the pace of spring crop planting in the United States remained high. The condition of winter wheat worsened.
According to the National Agricultural Statistical Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (NASS), by May 18, 78% of the planned corn area was planted (67% on the same date last year and 73% on average over the past five years). Soybeans were planted at 66% (50% and 53%) of the plan, spring wheat – at 82% (76% and 65%).
The share of winter wheat crops in good and excellent condition decreased to 52% (54% a week earlier and 49% a year ago). Currently, 30% of winter wheat crops are in satisfactory condition (28% and 33%), in poor and very poor condition – 18% (18% and 18%).
