Sowing work in Ukraine is almost 95% complete
“Ukraine has completed almost 95% of its sowing campaign. The sowing season is over in most regions. The sowing of niche crops is coming to an end. Only sunflower is being sown in Kherson region. The sowing campaign also continues in the de-occupied territories of Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions. The central regions of Ukraine, the south and western regions have mostly completed the sowing campaign. About 12.5 million hectares have been sown,” said Dmytro Solomchuk, MP and member of the Parliamentary Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy.
He added that this year’s harvest of grains and oilseeds is expected to reach 65-67 million tons, but much depends on weather conditions.
Dmytro Solomchuk also emphasized that the construction of long-term vegetable storage facilities is an important issue for domestic farmers.
“It is necessary to build or restore Soviet vegetable storage facilities, because one of the main conditions for farmers is to store their crops. Vegetables are delicate to store, as they need to be kept at the right temperature. Carrots are the most difficult to store, and we can see this in their price. We can’t store our own produce for 5-6 months, so we have to buy imported goods,” the politician said.
He added that farmers and private businesses have now begun to build such vegetable storages. In addition, many regions have increased the volume of vegetable crops, which should further affect their price.
