South Korea cancels GMO-free soybean tender and postpones it to December

South Korea’s state-run agro-industrial and food trading company has canceled an international tender to buy about 50,000 tons of soybeans free of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and issued a new tender for the same volume, European traders said.

The deadline for submitting price offers in the new tender for 50,000 tons of GMO soybeans is Dec. 5, they said.

The soybeans in the new tender are being procured from any suppliers worldwide for deferred shipment with arrival in two batches of 25,000 tons in January 2025 and February 2025, just as in the previous tender. The agency routinely procures goods with subsequent delivery after several years.

The agency’s separate tender for 20,000 tons of GMO soybeans in shipping containers also closes Dec. 5.
