Slovenia’s wheat output rises 5.6% in 2024

Slovenia’s wheat output rose to 152,500 tonnes last year, from 144,400 tonnes in 2023, the statistical office said on Friday.
Area sown with wheat decreased by 2% in 2024 compared to the previous year, to some 28,000 hectares, but it yielded better, the statistical office said. The average wheat yield of 5.5 tonnes per hectare was higher by 8% compared to 2023 and by 4% compared to the 10-year average.
Last year was favourable for the production of almost all types of cereals, maize, oil crops and plants for green fodder, the statistical office said. Good harvests were recorded for almost all types of late fruits and slightly poorer for early fruits, while the worst output was detected in vineyards, it added.
Barely output edged down to 100,700 tonnes last year from 101,000 in 2023.
Grain maize and corn-cob mix harvest fell to 385,000 tonnes in 2024, from 389,000 tonnes in the previous year.
