Slovakia offers to transport Ukrainian grain through the port of Bratislava
Slovakia is making efforts to create a transport corridor from Ukraine by rail to the river port in Bratislava. This was stated by State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Construction of the Slovak Republic Jaroslav Kmet.
From the Slovak port, grain is planned to be transported by the Danube to the Romanian Black Sea port of Constanta. From there, the grain can go to Africa. “It is much shorter, cheaper and more environmentally friendly than other alternatives,” the official said, adding: “The port of Constanta is also part of the new Silk Road from Asia, which is changing due to the war in Ukraine.”
According to the Secretary of State, Slovakia has an excellent logistics position, very good connections with the European railway, road and river network.
The port of Bratislava is located in the middle of the Rhine-Main-Danube waterway. At the same time, the railway network has sufficient capacity to increase the volume of cargo transported both in the south-north direction and in the east-west direction.
In addition, Jaroslav Kmet discussed new routes for the transport of goods passing through Slovakia with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Romania Gabriel Constantin Bunduk and the Director of the Water Transport Department of the Czech Ministry of Transport Eugene Vidro at the conference Transport Logistics.
