Ukraine. Trade regime with the EU at 7/12 will be sufficient – Shmyhal

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal does not see any threats in the short term due to the European Union’s restoration of quotas for the import of agricultural goods from Ukraine, which were canceled at the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
He stated this at a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Finland Petter Orpo.
“A free trade zone was already in place with Europe before the full-scale invasion, and it will continue to operate as a free trade zone for Ukraine with the European Union from June 6,” Shmyhal said.
He noted that there is a preliminary agreement with the European Commission that the FTA in the volume of quotas 7/12 will be in effect until the adoption of amendments to Article No. 29 of the Association Agreement.
“We understand that this seven-month volume that we will have in quotas will be sufficient for Ukraine not to experience a deterioration in the conditions that we had during the previous three years,” Shmyhal emphasized.
In addition, the Prime Minister stated that he hopes that amendments to Article No. 29 of the Association Agreement will be signed with the European Commission in 2025.
“Accordingly, both Ukrainian and European businesses that already have signed contracts within the agreed volumes and quotas will not experience a deterioration,” Shmyhal hopes.
He emphasized that the issue of trade with the EU is important for Ukraine.
“As of today, there are no threats of a deterioration in conditions in the short term. There is a need to promptly conclude amendments to the Association Agreement,” Shmyhal stated.
